Steve Armendariz Jr., known professionally as DJ Lil Steve, is a mixtape DJ from the north side of Houston, Texas, better known as H-Town. His signature slowed-down mixtapes have made him a fixture across Texas and the southern United States.
DJ Lil Steve started DJing house parties at 13, while still in high school, and recording up-and-coming artists in his hometown. By 15 he was chopping and screwing his own mixtapes. In 2005 he became the protégé of the legendary OG Ron C, co-founder of Swisha House and founder of The Chopstars, while also being part of the Houston rap group The Wreckin Yard. Three years later, after the breakup, DJ Lil Steve became the first DJ to help OG Ron C roll out the red carpet for The Chopstars.
Over the years he has worked with Yo Gotti, Yung Joc, Fonzworth Bentley, Drumma Boy, Gorilla Zoe, Bohagon, Murphy Lee, B.G., Trillville, That Mexican OT and many more. He has won three Southern Entertainment Awards: Rookie DJ of the Year (2006), Best Team Duo (2008) and Best Skills / Blend DJ of the Year (2023).
In 2012, multiplatinum producer Drumma Boy brought him into his DJ crew, The Drumsquad DJs. DJ Lil Steve has also been featured on MTV’s Mixtape Sundays and interviewed by The Source Magazine, Ozone Magazine and the Houston Press.
Most recently, he teamed up with That Mexican OT to slow down the albums Lonestar Luchador, including the hit single “Johnny Dang” featuring Paul Wall, and Texas Technician with the hit single “Point Em Out” featuring DaBaby. The project has brought the slowed-down sound to a younger generation, especially within the Hispanic community.
